Vern’s Place

Vern’s Place has been a landmark in LaPorte for over 70 years. After a devastating fire in 1990, Val and her husband, Nick Lanteri, partnered with the Kittels to rebuild Vern’s and continue the traditions that made Vern’s Place unique.

Fast forward to today. Nick & Val Lanteri are still partners in the business, but have turned over “Day to Day” operations to Ashley Sell and Gene Fiechtl. Ashley has been dedicated to Vern’s since 2001 immersing herself with an extensive knowledge of the business -waitressing, cooking, baking, cashiering, management and marketing. Gene, a CSU Alum with a Bachelors of Science in restaurant management, has a deep passion for food and the restaurant industry. He works tirelessly and collaboratively with his teams of employees to offer an experience of excellent food and even more excellent service! Together they carry out a commitment to the foundation that has made Vern’s a family tradition since 1946.

From the employee to the guest- this home is built on kindness, respect and great food!  On any given day, there’s a fantastic mix of locals, tourists from across the nation, first time visitors and regulars who come in to enjoy the food. Fresh, from scratch, hearty home cooked meals is what is served up at Vern’s. A fresh twist is added to many favorite foods that have been passed down for years. Healthier signature additions and gluten-friendly options are also available.

There are chalkboard specials for breakfast, lunch and dinner that change frequently, offering a unique variety. Breakfast is also served until 1pm daily.  Friday, Saturdays and Sunday nights after 4pm you can enjoy the tastiest prime rib special around. Fajitas served sizzling hot with fresh grilled choice of steak, chicken or veggie; mouthwatering burgers, amazing fish fry and the shrimp tacos are other favorite options. The food is sourced local whenever possible. Known for their famous giant cinnamon roll, you can also delight in the cinnamon roll ice cream sundae; the center is cut out and filled with vanilla ice cream and topped with butterscotch and chocolate syrup and whipped cream – so yummy!

Relaxing on their 1500 sq. ft. patio is a great way to wind down from a busy day of hiking, or rafting. Sip on specialty cocktails, local beers on tap, wine, margaritas, or mimosas.
