The founders have been doing Greek food for over 25 y¬ears. Located conveniently in the Front Range Village just off Harmony, with a second loca¬tion just recently opened in the Promenade Shops at Centerra in Loveland.
From the moment you enter this casual classy Greek res¬taurant, you will fill surround¬ed by the beautiful murals depicting the Greeks Isles and Greek culture. Designer chan¬deliers, open kitchen, and a separate bar extend the open airy feeling with casual booth seating prevailing. Greek stat¬ues, plaques and plants abound throughout this modern Old World restaurant. Tv’s are also strate¬gically placed for viewing your local sports teams. Café Athens at Centerra features a soothing waterwall with outstanding views of the surrounding Rocky Mountains.
Now, Greeks don’t believe in bland food. Fresh ingredients are a part of every Greek cook’s life. The art of Greek cooking is to keep it simple, celebrating the taste of fresh ingredi¬ents and wonderful combinations of herbs and spices. From hot & biting to mild and sweet, spices along with herbs such as oregano, basil, thyme are widely used, as are vegetables such as eggplant, zucchini and legumes of all types.
A unique flavor of northern Greece sets us apart from other Greek restaurants. Good Greek food is hard to find. The menu at Café Athens is very extensive with something for everyone. To start your meal, choose from one of 14 amazing appetizers, Mezedes as they say in Greek. Calamari, Spanakopita (spinach and feta cheese puffs), Dolmathes ( grape leaves stuffed with rice and served with tzatziki sauce), hummus to coconut shrimp and fresh prepared Avgolemano Soup, which is the national soup of Greece made with lemon chicken, rice, carrots, onions and celery.
Café Athens gyros are famous within Northern Colorado and Wyoming. The traditional gyro is seasoned with a special blend of spices. We use a vertical broiler to cook our meat to per¬fection. Tempt your tastebuds with the tradi¬tional Greek gyros, falafel gyros, Loukaniko gyros ( made with Greek sausage), Souviaki gyros (lamb & beef) or five variet¬ies of chicken gyros. Whatever you choose, you will be delightfully gratified.
Seven Greek style salads, and nine freshly cooked pita breads are also part of this great menu. Mousaka platter includes layers of delicious eggplant, potatoes, and seasoned ground beef with a side of marina and the Souviaki kabob offers you a choice of lamb, pork or shrimp, seasoned and skew¬ered perfectly, served with lettuce, tomatoes, onions, cucumbers and a side of creamy tzazika sauce ( made with fresh yogurt, garlic and cumin).
So have you ever experienced the flavors of Greek pizza? Come awaken your palate. All pizzas are prepared with a combination of mozzarella and Greek cheese with traditional pizza sauce. We also have incredible veg¬etarian options including hummus vegetarian pizza, as well as olive oil topped pizza and Plato’s Pie. Plato’s Pie is a big favorite featuring Grecian gyros thinly sliced, smothered with tomatoes, sliced olives, bell peppers, onions, and then topped with mozza¬rella cheese. Yum!
Save room for dessert! Greek des¬serts and pastries take an enormous time to prepare and are scrumptious. The Baklava is made with flaky philo dough layered with nuts, honey and butter, and can be served warmed with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Another mouth watering alternative is Bougatsa with layers of this same flaky filo dough but with a creamy Greek cus¬tard filling topped with cinnamon, sugar and whipped cream.
We also offer a wide variety of domestic beers, and a fine selec¬tion of imported bottled beer including beers from Greece. We have a full service bar with wines by the glass, pre¬mium and well choices, and signature drinks. Happy hour is daily from 3-6pm.
The concept at Café Athens is very affordable Greek food. It is a family oriented restaurant that offers a new concept in dining out – a sit down restaurant with fast full service. Most people do not have all day to wait for their food, especially if you are on a business lunch and need to get back to work within the hour or you want to catch dinner before the movies, or even a quick lunch while you are shop¬ping. The res¬taurant staff pride themselves in going that extra mile to give you the extra service you are in need of.
